CHURCHES SUSPENDING PUBLIC WORSHIP SERVICES
We invite all our members to join their respective online services. Our churches that are still closed to in-person worship will remain accessible for prayer and collaboration with civic authorities to provide for community needs.
How can my church stay connected if I have to suspend public worship services?
NEW YORK STATE ADVISORY
- Important download for houses of worship.
- New Yorkers over 50 or those with chronic health conditions should take extra precautions: avoid crowds and work from home if possible.
NEW YORK CITY ADVISORY
- Flagrant violation of rule regarding public gatherings, will be penalized by law.
- New Yorkers should text COVID to 692-692 to get regular updates on the latest developments with COVID-19
There is a Working Group at the Conference Office that meets as often as needed to provide updated guidance.
We are committed to sharing current, relevant and accurate information on the latest reports.
HEALTH TIPS
Think of yourself:
Those most at risk for severe illness are the elderly and those with other health conditions such as chronic lung disease, heart disease, diabetes or a weakened immune system. If you are in this category, please keep yourself safe by following the recommendations from the New York Health Department. Stay home/call your doctor if you feel sick. Seek care after 48 hrs if symptoms don't improve. If you don't have a doctor, call 311
Sanitize:
We recommend that all churches have sanitizing stations throughout the church, for the occasional essential services that the church may provide.
Churches should provide more frequent sanitization of restrooms (faucets, handles, toilet seats, services), nursery, playground, etc. during the times the building is in use. If you do not already have them, consider installing touchless faucets, towel dispensers, hand dryers, etc.
When you sanitize the church remember to include the Bible, Hymnals, etc. It may be best to limit displays of tithe envelopes, information cards, etc. that are in the pews.
Fellowship Lunch:
Churches should not be serving Fellowship Lunches during this time.
Baptism:
Since tap water is a good carrier of virus the church must provide proper treatment of the water in the baptismal pool. We recommend that the chlorine level in the baptismal pool be 1.5-3 ppm (like in a pool or hot tub).
Since those in good health are less susceptible to becoming infected we recommend that each church take time each week to share some good health principles during their streaming services:
Hand Washing
Proper Rest
Proper Diet
Fresh Air
Exercise
LARGE CONFERENCE EVENTS
No large events will be held at this time. Following the state and Health Department guidelines the GNYC has suspended all large gatherings as stipulated above.
